11 Sep How To: Cannabutter
Hey friends, we are excited to bring this week’s topic on edibles! While medicinal cannabis can come in many forms, we find the oral option to be the best way to get your dose of pain relief. Smoking and vaping anything will never be good for your airways or lungs and if you haven’t tried the edible variety then you are missing out! Today we have cooked up one of our favorite recipes to share with you, so let’s dig in!
Weed Butter
What can’t you use butter for? We put it on popcorn, smear on toast and jam, bake cookies, and add it to our favorite pan-fried dishes. With so many uses, this one recipe will make your intake options limitless, but be warned edibles can have a powerful effect.
Needed Items:
- ½ ounce of weed
- Scissors/grinder
- Glass baking dish/cookie sheet
- Stove Oven
- 1½ cup water
- 8 ounces butter/oil
- Medium saucepan
- Strainer
Recipe:
Step 1: Start with Decarbing
In order to activate the THC, CBD, and other cannabinoids you will need to bake your marijuana. This process also allows for the butter to combine with marijuana for optimal fusion.
Preheat the oven to 220 ̊ F. Take a half ounce of marijuana and use scissors or your hands to gently break apart the weed into fine particles but be careful not to overdo it. You don’t want the bits so small that they slip through the strainer that you will use later. Distribute the marijuana particles evenly in your baking dish and place on the center rack in your oven. Bake time will vary depending on weed quality. Older weed will need only 20 mins, while cured, high quality weed will need 45 minutes, and freshly harvested weed will need an hour or more of bake time. Turn the bits every 10 mins during baking to prevent burning sides. Once your marijuana has taken on a deep-toasted-green you can pull it out and start on step 2.
Step 2: Prepping the Butter
Take your 8 oz butter or oil and combine it with 1 ½ cups water in a saucepan over low heat. Once butter is melted, add the decarbed cannabis, mixing well and cover. Let simmer for 4 hours, stirring occasionally to keep mixture from burning. Temperature should not get above 180 ̊F. Once the four hours are up, strain mixture into a heat-tolerant container. Let the butter/oil cool to room temperature and enjoy. For long-term storage, keep in a sealed container in the fridge or freezer.
Try cannabutter on your favorite snacks or in your next meal. We highly recommend it on popcorn for some feel good movie time, but please only consume in your own home theater. Just remember: a little can go a long way! 1
1 According to Missouri State Law, Medical marijuana may only be possessed by caregivers/medical marijuana patients and consumed by the intended medical marijuana patients.
